Bob "Doc" Whelan was born, raised, and spent most of his life as a resident of West Newton. As a teenager in the 1970s he began working as a painter for William Earle & Son under the tutelage of his mentor, Robert "Bobby" Earle, and in 1998 took over as owner and operator of the company. In his over 40 years of experience, Bob's attention to detail, professionalism, and quality of work was second to none. As the owner of William Earle & Son, he trained and held his crew to that same standard of excellence, which is reflected in glowing reviews that have been written about their work throughout the years.

After a short and quiet battle with Myelofibrosis, Bob passed away unexpectedly in April of 2020, much to the shock of family, friends, and clients. Following his death, Bob's daughter and son-in-law continued to run William Earle & Son alongside Bob's long-time crew, and were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and wonderful stories so many customers reached out to share.

Bob spent his life working under the company name William Earle & Son, honoring Joseph and Robert Earle and their legacy. In October of 2020, Bob Whelan & Son was established as a way to honor Bob's memory within the community he loved so dearly.
